The Household Chemical Waste Program

The Western Australian Department of Environment, released its Household Chemical Waste Program in late 2004.  The program aims to improve the collection and storage of Household Chemical Waste by:

  1. Upgrading storage infrastructure and handling procedures;
  2. Raising community awareness of the issues associated with Household Chemcial Waste so as to promote changes in consumption and disposal behaviour; and
  3. Encouraging industry to reduce the production of hazardous products.

A copy of the program document can be downloaded here.  One of the schemes operating under the Program is the Paintback program through which old paint and paint tins are being recycled at the Mindarie Regional Council.  More information on Paintback is available here
