Household Hazardous Waste Program


The Program

The Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Program, funded through the Landfill Levy, will provide Local Governments with up to $1 million a year for the next three years to assist with the collection, storage and disposal of HHW.  The aim of the Program is to achieve the safe and certain storage and disposal of HHW and to obtain reliable data on the quantities and types of HHW collected in Western Australia.

What is A Household Hazardous Waste?

A Household Hazardous Waste is categorised as a household product that is no longer needed or has reached its end-of-life, which contains chemicals or substances that can be harmful to you, your children and/or pets.  This may include a broad range of products that are flammable, toxic, explosive or corrosive.

What Wastes Will Be Accepted on Collection Days?

  •  Pesticides/Herbicides
  • Flammables
  • Paints
  • Batteries
  • Thinners/Solvents
  • Household Acids and Alkalis
  • Gas Bottles
  • Compact Fluorescent Lamps and Fluorescent Tubes
  • Pool Chemicals

Waste That WILL NOT Be Accepted on Collection Days?

  • Electronic Waste (E-waste)
  • Waste Oil

Pilot Collection Days Confirmed!

Three Pilot Temporary Collection Days have been confirmed for the following dates:

o 16th August 2008: Stirling Civic Centre Carpark, Cedric Street, Stirling      
        9.00am – 1.00pm.

o 6th September 2008:City of South Perth Civic Centre, Corner of South Terrace and Sandgate Rd, South Perth
       9.00am -1.00pm

o 4th October 2008: Southern Metropolitan Regional Council, Regional Resource Recovery Centre, Bannister Road Canning Vale 
       9.00am – 1.00pm.
