Sample Study

The Shire of Smithville

Smithville is a fictitious Council outside the Perth Metropolitan Area. It has a population of some 15 000 residents who are dispersed over a fairly large area, in keeping with its designation as a rural Council. Smithville has a simple, bag-based, fortnightly recycling system which captures a small proportion of the waste stream and weekly garbage collection which captures the rest and delivers it to a regional landfill via two transfer stations. The Council has determined to investigate improved IRR systems and have set iris to work to assist them.

The Smithville Case Study

To illustrate how iris works, we've included a downloadable version of the program loaded with data from the Shire of Smithville. You will need to have a reasonably fast computer, loaded with Microsoft ® Excel. Please note that the file has been partially disabled to prevent interference with its contents, so many of the macros it contains do not work properly. We emphasise that the file is supplied for illustrative purposes only - the version distributed in the iris pack is fully functioning.  Click here to download a copy of the file:  iris User - Smithville Case Study

The Smithville Sample Report

Using the same data contained in the Smithville Case Study file, we've compiled a sample report which is indicative of the iris output. This report would provide for the fictional Smithville Council a sound basis for their investigation into alternative IRR systems.  Click here to download a copy of the report: Sample Report - Smithville
