The iris Report
The iris Report is generated by the Municipal Waste Advisory Council
The Municipal Waste Advisory Council is responsible for generating the iris report comparing system performance based on the data inputted by Councils. The distributed iris software does not produce a final report.
Purpose of the iris Report
It is stressed that iris is a tool for investigation and not a tool for making the ultimate decision. iris should be used to help you identify when systems are appropriate to investigate further. Some Councils have used iris first as a guide to help them shortlist two or three options before obtaining much more detailed data on the likely financial, environmental, technical and social performance of those alternatives. Staff at the Municipal Waste Advisory Council will be happy to discuss these questions with you.
Elements of the iris Report
Concordance Ranking
You will receive a table presenting a ranked list of the alternatives in order from best performing (Rank = 1) to worst performing. This ranking system takes into account both the performance of the different systems against each criterion and the weightings which you have designated to each criterion. To learn more about Multi Criteria assessment methodology, follow the link on the iris homepage.
Criteria Graphs
The iris Report will also contain a series of graphs depicting the relative performance of each system against all criteria. These graphs will provide a better insight into how the concordance ranking mentioned above is generated.
Sustainability Factors Report Card
The iris Report will also include a sustainability factors analysis. This will show how each option performed in terms of the financial cost, the resources recovered or diverted from landfill and the environmental costs avoided. This analysis will include detailed graphs to aid interpretation. The data provided in the sustainability factors report card provides a richer insight into specific aspects of system performance, but does not reflect the influence of community weightings. The sustainability factors data is also represented in a series of six graphs.
MWAC Charges for Generating System Comparison Reports
A basic Report costs $200 dollars including GST. Reports involving time consuming manipulations of the data or model will attract an hourly charge of $80 per hour. Subsequent investigations into other alternative systems, using much of the same base data may cost less than $200.
Why Reports cost Money
In order to generate a report for a Local Government, the staff at MWAC must check the data supplied and may probably need to speak to the Council or Shire officer in order to clarify aspects of the data. The MWAC staff must then load and process the data prior to tidying the output to present in a report. The report must be produced, printed and mailed out. From experience, we have found that these tasks tend to take several hours at a minimum. We stress that charges are levied purely to disburse some of the administrative costs associated with iris, not to make a profit.
