Use of Organics by Local Government
Households and Local Government produce a wide range of organic wastes from food scraps to tree trimmings. Markets for some organic waste are limited and so to encourage market development and increase the use of recycled organic materials by Local Government, WALGA has developed a Preferred Supplier Panel for Organic Composting Services to Local Government.
The term ‘recycled organic materials’ covers a broad range of products, such as mulch, compost, and soil conditioner. Sources of organic material includes green waste from bulk waste collections, material collected through a three bin kerbside system, material derived from Alternative Waste Treatment processes and material from Local Government managed land.
